The importance of goal-setting for achieving your goals
Hi everyone, Coach Mike here. I’ll be providing a blog post every month, so this will be the first of many. I’d like to start by expressing how much fun I’ve had getting to know each of you and how much I’ve enjoyed my time at PFD.
I want to talk about the importance of goal-setting, and the “why, what, and how” of this process.
Its easy to fall into a pattern of stagnant growth. Congrats, you’ve made going to the gym part of your routine, but now what? Without setting a goal with a specific time frame, you risk wasting time and energy without understanding the value you’re putting into your workout every day.
Diving into a fitness regimen without any kind of direction, puts you on the fast track to nowhere. Plus, being able to set a goal that serves a purpose in your life does more than just improve you physically, it’s a rewarding feeling that builds confidence and is a mentality that transfers well into other aspects of every day life.
Deciding on a goal is unique to each individual. One needs to think of what is important to YOU, what adds value to your life? Maybe you’ve had your eye on that Iron Man for awhile, or being able to complete that pull-up has escaped you for longer than you would have liked. Whatever it is, without a plan the goal is “just a wish”. Once you’ve decided what it is that’s important to you to achieve, we can start developing a plan.
Take a look around you next time you make it into the gym – the tools you need to accomplish your fitness goals are here: coaches, barbells, rowing machines, kettle bells, supplements. These are all tools you should take advantage of and round out your fitness regimen.
Your plan to accomplish your goal should be written down, very detailed, and with a specific time frame in mind. Sticking to the plan is, of course, just as important as the rest.
I hope all of you can take the time to reflect on what it is you feel compelled to achieve. Hopefully, in the near future, we can have a moment to discuss what are the goals you have and how I can help you achieve them. Remember that, at PFD, we’re more than happy to help you with any goals inside or outside of the gym.
“What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.” – Henry David Thoreau
